California summer of 1978

Golden hills burned by the sun.  Coast line covered with fog, San Francisco so cold in summer, every corner a new climate. And this is pre Aids so the bath houses are doing a brisk business (I was invited by a young woman and I demurred). Yosemite was majestic and then skinny dipping in a cold stream. A renaissance fair filled with characters who didn’t have to dress up. California… I have a month long internship at UCSF. We live the city, going out and enjoying its craziness and weekend trips outside the city to Napa valley, 49s country, Redwoods, Carmel, etc.
